The program combines cultural education, civic engagement, service-learning, mentorship, and international travel to help participants deepen their understanding of Kenya, strengthen their personal identity, and develop leadership skills for the future.

Through structured learning and experiential travel, participants gain practical knowledge, cultural awareness, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The KESCA program consists of two major components

Participants engage in cultural and leadership development sessions held both virtually and in person at a designated learning institution.

The academy curriculum is structured into three progressive levels:

Level 1: Basic Foundation

  • Introduction to Kenyan history and heritage
  • Identity and belonging
  • Basic Swahili language skills
  • Civic responsibility and service

Level 2: Intermediate Development

  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Community engagement
  • Cultural diplomacy
  • Intermediate Swahili language development

Level 3: Advanced Leadership

  • Strategic leadership and innovation
  • Community development initiatives
  • Investment and entrepreneurship opportunities
  • Advanced Swahili communication and cultural fluency
The KESCA immersion experience provides participants with firsthand engagement with Kenya’s diverse cultures, history, economy, and communities.

Rift Valley Experience

Days 4-5

Explore the historical, geographical, and ecological significance of the Great Rift Valley region through:

Educational excursions
Community visits
Environmental learning experiences

Nairobi Orientation and Cultural Foundations

Days 1-3

Hosted in partnership with the University of Nairobi

Participants will:
Engage in cultural orientation sessions
Explore Kenyan history and governance
Visit major institutions and landmarks in Nairobi
Learn about Kenya’s role in East Africa’s economic development

Rift Valley Experience

Days 4-5

Explore the historical, geographical, and ecological significance of the Great Rift Valley region through:

Educational excursions
Community visits
Environmental learning experiences

Village Immersion Experience

Days 6-8

Participants will:

Experience authentic village life
Learn traditional customs and practices
Engage in community service projects
Connect with local families and leaders


Safari and Tourism Experience

Days 9-10

Experience Kenya’s world-renowned tourism sector through visits to iconic conservation areas such as the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Participants will:

Learn about wildlife conservation
Explore Kenya’s tourism economy
Experience the country’s natural heritage



Kenya Coast Cultural Experience

Days 11-12

Explore the historical and cultural significance of Mombasa as a major East African port city.

Participants will:

Learn about the Swahili coastal culture
Explore Kenya’s maritime history
Understand trade and cultural exchange along the coast



Ideas Exchange Conference and Vyeti Awards

Days 13-14

Participants will:

Present reflections and project ideas
Engage in leadership dialogue
Participate in collaborative networking
Receive certificates and recognition awards

The KESCA Program Itinerary (14 Days)

The KESCA immersion experience provides participants with firsthand engagement with Kenya’s diverse cultures, history, economy, and communities.

KESCA welcomes applications from:

  • High School Students (Ages 16–17)
  • College & University Students (Ages 18–23)
  • Young Professionals (Ages 24–34)

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in:

Applicants must submit the following information:

  • Current Swahili proficiency level:
    • Basic

Applicants under the age of 18 must also provide:

KESCA Certification

participants who complete the program requirements will receive an official KESCA Certificate of Completion.

To qualify for certification, participants must complete:

  • Cultural grounding academy sessions
  • Civic engagement and service-learning requirements
  • The full 14-day Kenya immersion experience


Graduates of the program become part of the KESCA Alumni Network, with opportunities to:

  • Serve as KESCA Alumni Ambassadors
  • Mentor future KESCA participants
  • Lead service initiatives
  • Participate in leadership forums
  • Support future Kenya immersion programs

There are currently no vaccines universally required for travel to Kenya. However, we recommend consulting your local travel clinic for the most up-to-date health guidance, including recommendations regarding malaria prevention and yellow fever.
